A countersigned Baltimore Movers quote — the price the rowhouse pays at unload matches the figure on the page — takes a sixty-second form.

Whatever you type into this form sits on Theresa's desk in our Charm City office, used solely to price your Baltimore haul — never punted to a third party, never bundled into a contact-broker list, never spun up into a drip campaign.

Piano moves — uprights, baby grands, and Steinways

Pianos are their own job. Not their own line item on the same crew — their own crew. Dante Caruso has been leading the specialty work at Baltimore Movers since 2016, and he picks the four-mover team that handles every upright, baby grand, and full grand we touch.

A piano in Baltimore is usually one of three jobs:

  • An upright coming out of a Highlandtown or Patterson Park rowhouse with a tight staircase
  • A baby grand coming off a Federal Hill or Bolton Hill marble stoop down a narrow brick stair
  • A full grand inside a Roland Park or Guilford Victorian where the double parlor doors barely clear the lyre

Each of those moves a different way. So before I quote, I look at the piano and I look at the staircase — and only then does the flat rate go on the estimate.

What’s in every piano move

  1. Pad-wrap on the entire case, then shrink-wrap over the pads to lock them down
  2. Corner-board on the legs and the lyre — they’re the pieces that get scuffed on a stoop
  3. Piano board, skid, and stair-climber dolly for the actual carry
  4. Reassembly at the destination, pedals checked, lid latched, bench leveled

Piano-move pricing

Instrument Crew Typical flat rate
Spinet or console upright 3 movers @ $205/hr $465–$775
Full upright / studio 4 movers, flat-rate quoted $620–$1,030
Baby grand 4 movers, flat-rate quoted $925–$1,550
Full grand / Steinway B 5 movers, flat-rate quoted $1,650–$2,950

Released value at $0.60/lb is included on every job; for a Steinway or a Bösendorfer I’d suggest declaring full-value coverage at replacement value. Up to $1,000,000 cargo coverage per shipment rides on the truck.

Moving the rest of the house the same day? Slot the piano carry into a full residential move, or pair it with a long-distance run if the piano is heading down to Richmond or up to Philadelphia. Hampden bungalows get a lot of upright work in our calendar.

What is folded into your Baltimore, MD flat rate

  • Four-mover crew with a piano board, skid, and stair-climber dolly
  • Custom pad-wrap, shrink-wrap, and corner-board on every leg, lyre, and pedal assembly
  • Climate-aware scheduling — we don't load a grand piano into 95-degree humidity without a quilted cover
  • Marble-stoop and rowhouse-staircase carries handled with shoulder straps and a banister-guard
  • Reassembly and bench-leveling at the destination — pedals checked, lid latched, dust cover on
  • Coordination with your tuner if you want a follow-up tuning a week after the move settles

What will it run?

Two uniformed movers + the truck on the clock at $155/hr, or close the meter entirely with one countersigned Charm City flat number covering the full job in writing

Moving pads, four-wheel dollies, shrink film and the standard COI paperwork that Inner Harbor and Harbor East buildings demand are folded into either rate. A bump to three movers plus the rig sits at $205/hr.

Questions on this service

Can you move a baby grand out of a Federal Hill rowhouse?
Yes, and we do it often. A baby grand off a Federal Hill marble stoop gets a four-mover crew, a piano board, a skid, and shoulder straps for the rowhouse staircase. Dante Caruso runs this job — he's done it on cobblestones in Fells Point too.
What about a Steinway B or a Bösendorfer?
Same crew, more care. Custom pad-wrap and shrink-wrap on every leg and the lyre, and a quilted cover if the humidity is over 70%. I write the flat rate after I see the piano and the staircase, never before.
Is piano coverage separate from regular moving coverage?
It's the same released value at $0.60/lb that comes standard, plus we carry up to $1,000,000 cargo coverage per shipment. For a Steinway or a Bösendorfer I recommend declaring full-value protection at the actual replacement value of the instrument.
Can you move a piano up to the third floor of a Mt. Vernon brownstone?
Yes — stair-climber dolly and a five-mover crew if the turn at the second-floor landing is tight. I'll walk it first and quote it as a flat add-on to the rest of your move.
How it works

Booking a Charm City move with our crew, step by step

1

Drop the basics in the form

Both ZIPs, your target date, and the rough size of the home — takes about a minute, no obligation, and no charge to ask for the figure.

2

Read the binding written rate

One signed Maryland flat figure lands in your inbox, locked on paper. That is the number, full stop — no clock running on the crew once the marble stoop gets worked.

3

Our Baltimore Movers truck pulls in

Badged W-2 movers on an in-house Baltimore Movers truck arrive in the booked window, and the same faces stay on the job from the first blanket-wrap to the last box set in place at the new address.

Licensed in Maryland

Maryland PSC licensed, insured & owner-run — on every Charm City job

US DOT & MC authorityActive federal authority stands behind us the moment your load leaves Baltimore, MD — south on I-95 toward Washington DC and Richmond, up the corridor to Philadelphia, NYC and Boston, or west on I-70 to Pittsburgh.
Maryland PSC HHG permitA Maryland PSC household-goods moving permit sits on file with the state, alongside the US DOT and MC authority above — we are properly licensed to move Maryland households, not a broker farming the job out to whoever picks up the load.
$1,000,000 cargo coverageEvery box, sofa and bed frame loaded onto a Baltimore Movers truck moves under a $1M cargo policy as standard; full-value valuation rides as an upgrade option when a Roland Park art collection or a Mt. Vernon antique cabinet wants tighter coverage.
Workers’ comp & liabilityEvery uniformed crew member punching the clock for Baltimore Movers is enrolled in active Maryland workers' comp plus general liability — a strained back inside your formstone rowhouse, a slip on the marble stoop, a scrape in the English basement gets billed straight to our policy, not the homeowner.

Move Coming Up? Hand It To Our Baltimore, MD Crew.

Theresa countersigns the Charm City quote and emails it back — on a Mon-Fri the turnaround tends to clear well inside a single business hour. The figure that lands in your inbox is the same figure the rowhouse settles at the curb, with zero late-stage line items wedged into the small print.
